The research in brief

DreamHost is the consensus leader for nonprofit and charity hosting in this 7-platform AI study, named by 6 of 7 platforms (85.7%) with an average listed position of 2.0 and a best position of 1. InterServer ranks second (5 of 7 platforms, 71.4%, average 3.2), and Hostinger third (5 of 7, 71.4%, average 5.8). The strongest alternatives for distinct buyer needs are InterServer for verified U.S. 501(c)(3) organizations that will accept a required footer backlink in exchange for free shared hosting, Ultra Web Hosting for a low-cost, donation-plugin-ready shared plan with transparent renewal pricing, and Wix for a no-code builder with a TechSoup-linked 70% discount. The study covered 7 platforms and 27 unique entities, of which 10 qualified by being named by at least two platforms. The principal limitation is that platform answers are market intelligence, not verified facts: the same entity's nonprofit program status, pricing, and discount terms conflict across platforms, and several platforms reported research dates earlier than the study date.

Research Snapshot

  • Topic: Web hosting for nonprofits and charities (shared and small business web hosting category)
  • Target buyer: An administrator at a registered nonprofit organization who needs hosting for the organization's mission website with a limited budget and donation-related functionality
  • Geography: United States
  • Platforms included (7): ChatGPT, Claude, DeepSeek, Grok, Perplexity, Kimi, Gemini
  • Research date: 2026-10-03
  • Unique entities named: 27
  • Qualifying entities: 10

Which provider fits your situation?

Questions explored

  • Which web hosting provider should a nonprofit choose if it needs free hosting and can verify 501(c)(3) status?
  • Which hosting provider is best for a nonprofit that needs donation plugins and predictable renewal pricing?
  • Is a no-code website builder or a conventional shared host better for a small charity with no IT staff?

Different nonprofits need different things from the same category. The ranking table's "best considered for" fields map cleanly onto five buyer situations.

1. DreamHost

Questions explored

  • Is DreamHost worth it for a small nonprofit mission website, and what are its main drawbacks?
  • Is DreamHost or InterServer better for a U.S. 501(c)(3) that wants free hosting without a footer backlink?

DreamHost ranks first because it was named by 6 of 7 platforms (85.7%) at an average listed position of 2.0, with three platforms placing it first [90]. It is the only entity in this study that combines top-tier mention frequency with a best position of 1, and its fit ratings split between "strong" (Claude, Grok) and "mixed" (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini) [386].

Why it ranked here. DreamHost's historical nonprofit program - free shared hosting for verified U.S. 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(19) organizations - is the single most-cited nonprofit hosting benefit across the platform responses. Anthropic describes a lifetime free plan with unlimited bandwidth, 50 GB SSD storage, free SSL, unlimited email accounts, and a custom domain, with no footer-link requirement [386]. Grok confirms free shared hosting for verified 501(c)(3) organizations with email and SSL, one plan per nonprofit, and an IRS determination letter required [390]. DeepSeek describes a documented nonprofit discount program and free shared hosting option subject to verification [90].

Best suited for. A small registered U.S. 501(c)(3) with a brochure-style WordPress or informational website, organizations able to verify eligibility with an IRS determination letter, and nonprofits prioritizing minimum hosting cost who are willing to manage donation tools separately.

Main strengths for this use case. Potentially very low or zero cost if the nonprofit program is approved; a suitable baseline for a small informational or WordPress mission website; email, SSL, databases, WordPress installation, and domain management inside the hosting ecosystem; documented support and uptime commitments; and the ability to use external donation forms or hosted fundraising platforms without requiring WooCommerce on shared hosting [21].

Main limitations. The current nonprofit discount or free-hosting program cannot be confirmed from the previously cited official page, which now returns 404 [21]. WooCommerce is documented as unavailable on shared servers because of memory constraints and is limited to Managed VPS, Dedicated, or DreamPress [22].

2. InterServer

Questions explored

  • Is InterServer worth it for a 501(c)(3) that needs free hosting, and what are its main drawbacks?
  • Which nonprofit hosting provider requires a footer backlink, and what happens if the link is removed?

InterServer ranks second with 5 of 7 platform mentions (71.4%) and an average listed position of 3.2, with a best position of 2 [148]. Its fit ratings range from "strong" (Grok) to "good" (Claude, Gemini, ChatGPT) to "mixed" (DeepSeek, Kimi, Perplexity) [148].

Why it ranked here. InterServer's free Standard shared hosting for verified U.S. 501(c)(3) organizations is the most consistently documented free nonprofit offer in the evidence set. Google states the company provides its Standard Shared Hosting package completely free of charge to eligible U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit and charity organizations [148]. Anthropic describes a genuinely free Standard plan with unlimited storage, bandwidth, email, and SSL [386]. Perplexity confirms the offer requires a "Powered by InterServer" site credit and IRS determination-letter verification [148].

Best suited for. Small or midsize 501(c)(3) organizations seeking to eliminate recurring shared-hosting charges, organizations running WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, or another supported CMS, and mission websites with normal traffic, email, SSL, forms, and third-party donation links or plugins.

Main strengths for this use case. Potentially eliminates the main recurring hosting expense for verified 501(c)(3) organizations; includes CMS installation, SSL, email, databases, backups, forms, and migration support; supports third-party donation integrations through common CMS and commerce applications; and offers a low-cost paid fallback if the nonprofit program is not approved [148].

Main limitations. The nonprofit offer is limited to verified 501(c)(3) organizations and requires a public InterServer credit [148]. Donation processing and donor-management capabilities are not included as a dedicated nonprofit service [148]. Shared hosting resource limits may make the Standard plan unsuitable for sudden high-volume fundraising traffic; published baseline limits include 1 CPU core, 2 GB memory, 100 processes, and 30 entry processes [147]. No reviewed source provides an independent uptime study, campaign-load test, or nonprofit-specific support-response data [150]. Domain registration is separate and not included in the free offer [214].

3. Hostinger

Questions explored

  • Is Hostinger worth it for a nonprofit that needs donation functionality, and what are its main drawbacks?
  • Which hosting provider for nonprofits has the lowest introductory price but no verified nonprofit discount?

Hostinger ranks third with 5 of 7 platform mentions (71.4%) and an average listed position of 5.8, with a best position of 4 [133]. Fit ratings split between "good" (Claude, Grok, ChatGPT) and "mixed" (Gemini, Kimi, Perplexity), with DeepSeek rating it "uncertain" because its search results contained no Hostinger nonprofit information [274].

Why it ranked here. Hostinger's position rests on price and builder-based donation support rather than a nonprofit program. Its Premium shared hosting is advertised at $2.99/month on a 48-month term, renewing at $10.99/month, and Business at $3.99/month renewing at $16.99/month [e3:official:C1][e3:official:C2]. Its Website Builder and AI Builder support donation-type products with suggested and custom amounts, and its charity-site guidance mentions Stripe and PayPal [130].

Best suited for. Small or midsize nonprofit websites with ordinary traffic, organizations using WordPress donation plugins or external donation platforms, and nonprofits prioritizing low introductory pricing and simple managed hosting.

Main strengths for this use case. Low promotional cost and an inexpensive entry point for small organizations; WordPress, WooCommerce, migration, SSL, backups, and website-builder options that support common nonprofit website patterns; Business shared hosting provides stronger backup coverage than Premium and is more suitable for donation-campaign changes; and Website Builder payment features may support simple event, merchandise, or donation-related pages without custom development [138].

Main limitations. No verified nonprofit discount was found in the reviewed official pricing, support, and legal materials [138]. Shared hosting has account-level resource limits and is less appropriate for unpredictable, high-volume campaign traffic than managed cloud hosting [138]. Hostinger is a hosting provider, not a complete nonprofit fundraising or donor-management platform [138]. Donation processing, recurring giving, receipts, tax acknowledgments, CRM synchronization, and payment compliance generally require third-party tools or plugins [138]. Promotional pricing requires upfront commitment and renews at materially higher displayed rates [123]. Advertised uptime and security protections have contractual or technical exclusions [127].

4. Ultra Web Hosting

Questions explored

  • Is Ultra Web Hosting worth it for a small nonprofit that needs donation plugins, and what are its main drawbacks?
  • Which nonprofit hosting plan has the lowest published recurring cost with donation-plugin support and no required attribution link?

Ultra Web Hosting ranks fourth despite having only 4 platform mentions (57.1%), because its average listed position of 2.75 is the second-best in the study and its best position is 1 [175]. Six of seven platforms rated the fit "good"; DeepSeek rated it "mixed" [175].

Why it ranked here. Ultra markets a dedicated Ultra Nonprofit Hosting shared plan for 501(c)(3) charities, foundations, and community organizations at $3.95/month billed annually or $5.95/month monthly, with explicit donation-plugin compatibility [175]. Its average position of 2.75 reflects that the platforms that did name it placed it high.

Best suited for. Small 501(c)(3) organizations with an informational or moderately active WordPress site; nonprofits using GiveWP, Charitable, Donorbox, WPForms, Stripe, PayPal, Square, or embedded fundraising services; and organizations prioritizing low recurring cost, free migration, email hosting, and hands-on support.

Main strengths for this use case. Low advertised cost for a nonprofit-oriented shared plan; donation and payment integration compatibility through WordPress and third-party tools; free SSL, daily backups, organizational email, cPanel, and one-click WordPress; free migration advertised for annual plans; and U.S.-based support and a 45-day money-back guarantee [175]. Anthropic reports that Ultra claims renewal prices match introductory prices, with independent pricing data confirming renewal equals the initial term rate [175].

Main limitations. Shared hosting may be unsuitable for sudden high traffic or complex donor portals [175]. No independently verified uptime history for the nonprofit plan was found [365]. Donation processing, donor data management, and payment compliance remain the responsibility of the nonprofit and its selected third-party tools [175]. Backup retention, restoration assistance, and off-site backup details are not clear from the reviewed sources [175]. The separate nonprofit discount, renewal pricing, and resource limits are not fully documented [175].

5. SiteGround

Questions explored

  • Is SiteGround worth it for a nonprofit WordPress site, and what are its main drawbacks?
  • Which managed WordPress host for nonprofits offers staging and daily backups, and how much does it cost after renewal?

SiteGround ranks fifth with 4 of 7 platform mentions (57.1%) and an average listed position of 5.5, with a best position of 4 [156]. Six of seven platforms rated the fit "mixed"; Claude rated it "good" [168].

Why it ranked here. SiteGround is the strongest managed WordPress option in the ranking for nonprofits that value staging, backups, and support over lowest cost. Anthropic describes managed WordPress hosting with automatic updates, daily backups, staging environments on GrowBig and GoGeek, and a 99.99% uptime guarantee [376]. Google describes Google Cloud Platform infrastructure with SuperCacher and a custom CDN [300].

Best suited for. Nonprofits that want managed WordPress hosting with SSL, CDN, backups, migration tools, caching, security features, email, and human support; organizations running a mission website with ordinary donation forms or third-party fundraising integrations; and organizations that need staging, on-demand backups, or multiple websites and can justify GrowBig.

Main strengths for this use case. Managed WordPress tooling reduces routine technical administration; SSL, CDN, backups, caching, security features, migration support, and 24/7 human support are relevant to a mission website; GrowBig adds staging and on-demand backups, useful before donation-form or campaign changes; and WooCommerce hosting can support an online store or donation workflow when paired with an appropriate payment processor [168].

Main limitations. Long-term cost can rise substantially after the introductory term [157]. No current, publicly verified general nonprofit discount was identified in the reviewed official SiteGround and TechSoup sources [47]. Donation processing, donor records, tax receipts, recurring-gift management, and payment compliance require separate tools and configuration [167]. Shared hosting resources are not the same as dedicated campaign capacity [168]. The reviewed evidence does not independently verify actual support response times or campaign-specific uptime performance [348].

6. Kinsta

Questions explored

  • Is Kinsta worth it for a nonprofit WordPress site, and what are its main drawbacks?
  • Which managed WordPress host gives nonprofits a recurring discount plus annual savings, and what does the entry plan cost after the discount?

Kinsta ranks sixth with 4 of 7 platform mentions (57.1%) and an average listed position of 5.75, with a best position of 2 [26]. Fit ratings split between "good" (Claude, Gemini, ChatGPT, Perplexity) and "mixed" (DeepSeek, Grok, Kimi) [43].

Why it ranked here. Kinsta is the only entity in this study with a consistently documented, recurring percentage nonprofit discount: 15% off all Managed WordPress plans for approved nonprofits, plus two months free on annual billing [43]. Its best position of 2 came from DeepSeek [26].

Best suited for. Established nonprofits with a WordPress website and a predictable but potentially campaign-sensitive traffic profile; organizations that want managed infrastructure, backups, CDN delivery, security features, and 24/7 technical support; and nonprofits able to document U.S. 501(c)(3) status and use a separate hosting account for the discounted site.

Main strengths for this use case. A documented nonprofit discount process requiring 501(c)(3) or equivalent evidence; a managed WordPress environment with CDN, backups, security features, and migration/support infrastructure; an entry-level plan with enough stated capacity for many ordinary nonprofit mission sites and a path to upgrade for campaigns; and no long-term contract with a stated first-time-customer refund window [30]. Anthropic reports SOC 2 compliance, Cloudflare DDoS protection, and free hack fixes under Kinsta's Security Pledge [201].

Main limitations. The nonprofit discount does not apply to add-ons [30]. The lowest relevant plan is more expensive than many basic shared-hosting alternatives, especially if the organization needs add-ons [40]. Donation processing, payment-gateway setup, plugin configuration, and custom development remain the nonprofit's or its developer's responsibility; Kinsta states that its managed support does not include custom programming, external-service integration, or fixing issues caused by themes or plugins [33].

7. GreenGeeks

Questions explored

  • Is GreenGeeks worth it for a small charity, and what are its main drawbacks?
  • Which eco-friendly hosting provider for nonprofits has the lowest introductory price, and how much does it cost after renewal?

GreenGeeks ranks seventh with 4 of 7 platform mentions (57.1%) and an average listed position of 5.75, with a best position of 3 [113]. Five of seven platforms rated the fit "good"; DeepSeek and Kimi rated it "mixed" [112].

Why it ranked here. GreenGeeks maintains a nonprofit-hosting page and advertises Lite, Pro, and Premium shared plans for charities and other nonprofit organizations, with Lite at $2.95/month prepaid for 12 months [112]. Its environmental positioning - matching 300% of server energy with renewable energy credits - is a differentiator for mission-aligned charities [205].

Best suited for. Small charities with one WordPress website and limited technical staff; organizations using WooCommerce, a donation plugin, or an external donation processor; and nonprofits prioritizing low introductory cost, backups, SSL, WordPress installation, and 24/7 support.

Main strengths for this use case. Low initial cost for a one-site nonprofit website; explicit nonprofit-hosting plans; WordPress and WooCommerce compatibility for donation workflows; SSL, backups, migration assistance, and 24/7 support are advertised; and unmetered traffic is useful for ordinary campaign and awareness traffic [112]. Anthropic reports nightly full backups plus an additional weekly off-site backup for nonprofit accounts [112].

Main limitations. The Lite plan is limited to one website and 25 GB of storage [112]. Unmetered traffic does not establish unlimited compute capacity or protection against resource limits during fundraising spikes [112]. Donation processing, donor records, receipts, recurring gifts, and payment compliance remain dependent on third-party software or services [112]. Renewal pricing is substantially higher than the introductory price [112]. Provider uptime and support claims are not independently validated by the cited sources [112]. Backup retention, restoration performance, and service-level remedies are not clear [112].

8. Free For Charity

Questions explored

  • Is Free For Charity worth it for a newly formed nonprofit, and what are its main drawbacks?
  • Which completely free hosting option for nonprofits includes a.org domain and email, and how long does onboarding take?

Free For Charity ranks eighth with 3 of 7 platform mentions (42.9%) but the third-best average listed position in the study at 3.67, with a best position of 3 [94]. Six of seven platforms rated the fit "good"; DeepSeek rated it "mixed" [94].

Why it ranked here. Free For Charity offers a completely free managed website package for verified U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofits, including a.org domain, hosting on GitHub Pages, and Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace email assistance [94]. Its average position of 3.67 reflects that the platforms that named it placed it high.

Best suited for. Small or newly formed U.S. nonprofits seeking no-cost managed website hosting; organizations that can use a standardized static-site template; and charities needing a basic donate pathway through Zeffy.

Main strengths for this use case. Very low direct cost for qualifying nonprofits; managed static hosting with HTTPS, CDN, DNS management, and no plugin patching for the charity to perform; a custom.org domain and nonprofit email assistance included in the broader package; a donation pathway using Zeffy directly supported in the standard Single Page template; and suitability for a basic mission website with pages for programs, team, contact, and donations [94].

Main limitations. Volunteer-supported service with an acknowledged onboarding backlog; new-site delivery may take weeks rather than being immediate [7]. Post-launch changes generally require support requests rather than direct editing [13]. Static hosting may not support complex dynamic functionality, databases, advanced membership systems, or many WordPress-dependent workflows [94]. No publicly verified uptime SLA, support SLA, or campaign-period escalation commitment was found [94]. Domain management is centralized in Free For Charity's Cloudflare account rather than a conventional registrar account controlled solely by the nonprofit [9].

9. Bluehost

Questions explored

  • Is Bluehost worth it for a small nonprofit WordPress site, and what are its main drawbacks?
  • Does Bluehost offer a nonprofit discount through TechSoup, and what does the plan cost after renewal?

Bluehost ranks ninth with 3 of 7 platform mentions (42.9%) and an average listed position of 5.67, with a best position of 2 [79]. Six of seven platforms rated the fit "mixed"; Claude rated it "good" [79].

Why it ranked here. Bluehost markets nonprofit website hosting using WordPress-oriented hosting with a stated starting price as low as $3.99 per month on the U.S. nonprofit page, and it is one of the three hosts officially recommended by WordPress.org [79]. Its best position of 2 came from Perplexity [79].

Best suited for. Small nonprofits running one WordPress mission website with moderate traffic; organizations needing an inexpensive, conventional WordPress host and basic donation-page integration; and teams without dedicated technical staff that value phone or chat support.

Main strengths for this use case. Low advertised entry price for a basic WordPress nonprofit site; PayPal and Stripe support can enable donation-page functionality; advertised SSL, backups or malware protection, domain inclusion, and 24/7 support reduce administrative burden; and a conventional WordPress environment offers broad access to nonprofit, donation, membership, and email-marketing plugins [79].

Main limitations. No verified evidence of the proposed 25% TechSoup discount [75]. Promotional pricing may be substantially lower than renewal pricing [77]. Donation functionality is not the same as an included fundraising platform or payment-processing service [79]. Shared hosting may be unsuitable for major campaign spikes, high transaction volume, multiple sites, or media-heavy campaigns [74]. The uptime guarantee has broad exclusions and a limited financial remedy: a credit coupon of up to 5% of that month's hosting fee, subject to a 30-day claim window and Bluehost approval [76]. Public materials do not independently verify support responsiveness or fundraising-campaign reliability [75].

Pricing or cost summary. Introductory pricing is advertised from $3.99 per month on Bluehost's U.S.

10. Wix

Questions explored

  • Is Wix worth it for a nonprofit that needs a no-code site with donations, and what are its main drawbacks?
  • Which website builder gives nonprofits a 70% discount, and what happens at the end of the two-year term?

Wix ranks tenth with 3 of 7 platform mentions (42.9%) and an average listed position of 6.0, with a best position of 3 [55]. Five of seven platforms rated the fit "good"; DeepSeek and Kimi rated it "mixed" [55].

Why it ranked here. Wix is the only entity in this study with a large, TechSoup-mediated nonprofit discount: 70% off a two-year Premium subscription for one website, with a one-year domain-registration voucher, subject to TechSoup verification [55]. Its native Wix Donations app supports one-time and recurring donations, campaign goals, donor notes, and automated donor emails [57].

Best suited for. Nonprofits needing a no-code website builder and managed hosting; organizations running one primary website with donation forms, recurring donations, campaign goals, donor notes, and basic payment acceptance; and administrators prioritizing ease of editing, integrated hosting, and a nonprofit discount over maximum technical flexibility.

Main strengths for this use case. Managed hosting avoids server administration and routine infrastructure maintenance; Core includes payment acceptance and sufficient stated storage for a typical mission website; Wix Donations supports one-time and recurring donation workflows, campaign goals, donor notes, automated emails, and fee-cover options; the TechSoup-linked offer can materially reduce the cost of a qualifying two-year Premium subscription; and Wix states that its infrastructure is designed to scale for traffic spikes [55].

Main limitations. The nonprofit discount documentation does not clearly establish that the current Core plan receives the 70% discount [55]. The discount is described for one website and requires TechSoup eligibility and verification [55]. Donation processing still incurs payment-provider fees [57]. Advanced fundraising, donor-management, peer-to-peer, tax-receipt, and reporting capabilities may require external services or workarounds; Wix's own Donations feature-request list includes peer-to-peer donations, tax-refund receipt generation, donor lifetime-value tracking, and donor walls [60].

What this study reveals

Questions explored

  • What does a 7-platform AI study reveal about how nonprofit hosting discounts are documented?
  • Why do AI platforms disagree about which hosting providers offer nonprofit programs?

Three structural patterns emerge from the evidence bundles.

First, the free tier is the most contested claim in the category. DreamHost, InterServer, Free For Charity, and (historically) Bluehost all appear in the evidence with free or near-free nonprofit offers, and in every case at least one platform disputes the current status, the terms, or the documentation. DreamHost's nonprofit page returns 404 per ChatGPT and Gemini [21]. InterServer's nonprofit page is described by DeepSeek as not clearly surfaced in current public materials [146]. Bluehost's TechSoup discount is described as active by Kimi and false by Gemini [2]. Free For Charity's claims are described as primarily provider-published [92].

Second, discount percentages are rarely published in first-party documentation. Kinsta's 15% is the most consistently documented recurring percentage [43].

Where the AI Platforms Agreed

Questions explored

  • On which nonprofit hosting facts did all seven AI platforms agree?
  • Which hosting providers are consistently described as requiring 501(c)(3) verification?

Several findings were consistent across platforms.

  • U.S. 501(c)(3) verification is the gate for free and discounted programs. DreamHost, InterServer, Kinsta, Wix, and Free For Charity all require documentation such as an IRS determination letter or TechSoup verification [259].
  • Donation processing is not included in hosting. Platforms consistently describe donation functionality as dependent on WordPress plugins, external processors, or dedicated fundraising platforms [22].
  • Renewal pricing exceeds introductory pricing for most paid hosts. Hostinger, SiteGround, GreenGeeks, Bluehost, and Ultra Web Hosting all show or are described with renewal increases [e3:official:C1][157].

Where the AI Platforms Disagreed

Questions explored

  • Which nonprofit hosting claims conflict across AI platforms, and what should a buyer verify?
  • Is DreamHost's free nonprofit hosting still available in 2026?

The disagreements are material and should be treated as verification checklists rather than resolved facts.

How to compare your options

Questions explored

  • What should a nonprofit check before choosing a hosting provider for donation campaigns?
  • Which hosting provider should a nonprofit choose if it needs verified nonprofit pricing in writing?

Work through these decision gates in order.

1. Confirm your eligibility pathway. If you are a verified U.S. 501(c)(3) and zero cost is the priority, InterServer's free Standard shared hosting is the most consistently documented free offer, but it requires a visible "Powered by InterServer" link and annual re-verification [148]. If you cannot accept a footer credit, verify DreamHost's current program status directly before relying on it [340].

2. Decide whether you need a discount or a low price. Kinsta's 15% recurring discount and Wix's 70% two-year TechSoup discount are the two most consistently documented percentage programs [43]. Hostinger, SiteGround, GreenGeeks, and Bluehost discounts are reported by some platforms and unconfirmed by others, so treat them as items to verify in writing [333].

Methodology

This index was produced from a single standardized research prompt sent once to each of 7 included platforms: ChatGPT, Claude, DeepSeek, Grok, Perplexity, Kimi, and Gemini. The prompt described a nonprofit administrator with an extremely limited budget seeking nonprofit-specific discounts, reliability during donation pushes, and decent support without dedicated IT staff.

Platforms were asked which providers they would recommend and why. Entities named by at least two platforms qualified for the ranking. The final ranking order is based on platform mentions, then average listed rank, then best listed rank, and is reproduced from the supplied final ranking table without recalculation.

Platform mentions count only ranking-discovery mentions. All included platforms evaluated fit, but a platform that evaluated an entity without naming it during ranking discovery does not add to its mention count.

Fit assessments, pricing, features, limitations, and disagreements come from the entity evidence bundles. Citations are platform-reported evidence, not independently verified facts. Company-owned sources are distinguished from independent sources where the evidence bundles provide that information; several entities in this study have more company-owned than independent citations, including Hostinger, Ultra Web Hosting, Kinsta, GreenGeeks, Free For Charity, and Wix.

The study used one standardized prompt sent once to each included platform.

Research limitations

  • Single prompt, single run. One prompt was sent once to each platform. Different wording, timing, or account state could produce different recommendations.
  • Platform-reported research dates differ from the study date. DeepSeek reported dates ranging from 2026-01-15 to 2026-06-12, and Claude reported 2026-01-15 for two entities. These are provenance metadata and do not independently prove freshness.
  • No-search model claims require verification. DeepSeek's research configuration had search disabled, so its claims are model-reported rather than retrieved. Its findings should be verified before being treated as current facts.
  • Citations are platform-reported evidence, not verified facts. No citation in this study was independently validated by the writer stage.
  • Supplied URLs were not independently validated. URLs collected from platform responses were not checked by the writer stage.
  • Company-owned sources materially outnumber independent sources for several entities. Do not describe company claims as independently verified.
  • Conflicting product names, pricing, and capabilities were not resolved by guessing. Where platforms disagreed, the conflict is described and buyers are told what to verify.
  • The deterministic identity audit contains qualification notes. Official-site retrieval failed for one or more Bluehost and Wix mentions, and identity used exact-name fallback with the matching reported domain retained but unverified.

The consensus assessment

DreamHost is the consensus leader for nonprofit and charity hosting in this 7-platform study, named by 6 of 7 platforms at an average listed position of 2.0, but its free nonprofit program status is the study's most contested claim and must be verified directly before purchase [340]. InterServer is the strongest alternative for verified U.S. 501(c)(3) organizations that will accept a footer backlink in exchange for free shared hosting [148]. Ultra Web Hosting offers the best combination of low published recurring cost and explicit donation-plugin compatibility among paid options [175]. Kinsta and SiteGround are the ranked managed WordPress options for nonprofits with campaign-sensitive traffic and some budget [43]. Wix is the ranked no-code option with the largest documented discount, but its two-year term and automatic standard-rate renewal require active management [55]. Free For Charity is the only ranked option that is completely free with a domain and email included, at the cost of a volunteer-driven backlog and a static-site architecture [94].

Frequently Asked Questions

Which hosting provider is best for a nonprofit with no budget at all? InterServer offers free Standard shared hosting for verified U.S. 501(c)(3) organizations with a required footer backlink [148]. Free For Charity offers a completely free managed static-site package with a.org domain and email assistance, subject to a volunteer backlog [94]. DreamHost historically offered free shared hosting without a footer link, but current program status is disputed [340].

Do any of these hosts include donation processing? No. Every ranked entity relies on WordPress plugins, external processors, or dedicated fundraising platforms for donation processing [22]. Wix has a native Donations app, but it lacks peer-to-peer donations, tax-receipt generation, and donor lifetime-value tracking [60].

Which provider has the most consistently documented nonprofit discount? Kinsta's 15% recurring discount on Managed WordPress plans is the most consistently documented percentage across platforms [43]. Wix's 70% discount is larger but tied to a two-year Premium plan and TechSoup verification [55].

Study limitations

  • Recommendation counts measure mentions during the ranking stage. Later fit assessments do not increase those counts.
  • Some evidence identifiers refer to individual platform responses rather than independently verified sources.
  • Source URLs came from AI platform responses and were not independently validated during report preparation.

Affiliate & commercial disclosure

We may receive compensation when you follow certain links, subscribe to a hosting plan, or take another qualifying action through a commercial partner. These relationships create a potential financial conflict, but do not influence recorded AI recommendations or ranking calculations. Partner availability, pricing, features, and service terms can vary.
